The free quilted Mini Hearts Pillow pattern

If you’ve ever made our free Mini Heart Coaster pattern, you might recognize the heart block we’re using here. I’ve used and loved my own heart coasters for years! But while playing around my coasters, I realized that they would look super cute sewn together…into a pillow!

And so, I’m delighted to share the re-imagined free Mini Hearts block pattern, which includes new cutting diagrams and sewing directions, along with finishing instructions for a 15" x 15" pillow or coasters!

If you already have Mini Hearts coasters (or plans to make some), now you can make a matching pillow for even sweeter Valentine decor! Or if you’re not a coaster person (because I’ve heard not everyone loves coasters as much as I do), now you have a reason to try out these adorable heart blocks.

Of course, you don’t have to limit your Mini Heart Pillow to February! Make throw pillows to match your Heirloom Hearts quilt for any time of year…sew them up for your favorite kid’s bedroom…give them as a wedding gift!

Learn to make a quilted pillow
The Mini Hearts Pillow pattern tells you how to make the front of your pillow, but to actually turn your mini quilt into a pillow cover, you can follow our quick and easy pillow tutorial!

My Mini Hearts Pillow

For my Mini Hearts pillow, I used the same fabric as my Speckled Heirloom Hearts quilt. I was just so smitten with that quilt, so I wanted to play with those colors again. Luckily, we had some extra Speckled fabric at the studio…and a mini pillow seemed like the perfect project to use it!

Here are the fabrics used (all Ruby Star Society Speckled):

  • Purple Velvet
  • Berry
  • Daisy
  • Flamingo
  • Neon Pink
  • Playful
  • Strawberry

The finished pillow definitely matches my Heirloom Hearts quilt, but the different color arrangement gives the same pull such a different look! It’s so cute and happy…and I ❤️ my new pillow!

Make your own Mini Hearts Pillow bundles

These darling pillows don’t take long at all, so you can have them ready by Valentine’s Day…no problem! Plus, they’re so fast and fun to sew that they make a great palette cleanser between larger projects.

Just make sure you’ve downloaded the PDF pattern above, and then you can figure out your fabrics! ❤️

CURATED BUNDLES

For a limited time, we’re offering mini-bundles for these Mini Heart Pillows! Made from the same Ruby Star Society Speckled fabric I used in my Speckled Heirloom Hearts quilt, these gorgeous bundles will make the sweetest Valentine pillows!

Each bundle comes with six ⅛-yard cuts. That’s enough for you to make one pillow and have three leftover blocks…perfect for matching heart coasters! (The Mini Heart Pillow pattern uses the entire 42” WOF, so make sure you cut carefully and get three blocks from each ⅛ yard.)

We won’t be restocking these bundles, so get them while you can!

SEW FROM YOUR STASH

You can use a single fat eighth or eighth-yard cut to make three heart blocks for your pillow…or you can use up your smaller scraps! Each block needs just two 2.5” x 4.5” cuts for the hearts and similarly small scraps for the background.

Either way, this pattern is great for shopping your stash!

Happy quilting…and happy Valentine’s Day!
