Knitted Star - my bed version
While this pattern doesn't necessarily have to be festive and Christmas-y, I couldn't help but make a red and white version! I also really wanted to make a bed size...which is a rarity for me. I actually based this entire quilt off of a piece of fabric that I've been hoarding *ahem* "saving" for the perfect occasion....Unruly Terrace by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics. It's from her Gathered Collection, so it's a few years old, but I absolutely LOVE it. And it's such a pretty light olive shade of green.

When looking at their solids, I was instantly drawn to Weathered Brick. It's kind of a rich purple-y shade of red. It was a little tricky to photograph...my camera kept wanting to correct the color and make it more vibrant red. I love this color so much, I knew that I wanted it to be my background fabric. It's so so pretty.
For the Star fabric, I didn't want to use a super bright white, because I thought that it would be too stark against the muted shades of the backing and background fabric. I was in-between Creme de la Creme and White Linen. I ended up choosing Creme de la Creme, but I wish that I had chosen White Linen! Creme de la Creme was a little too creamy/yellow for my taste. White Linen is the perfect Ivory color!

Thankfully, Peter helped me crank out these blocks! I set him up on my Janome 6700p and he went to town with chain piecing! While he was working on that, I would either be pressing seams or using my Stripology ruler to cut the next rows. These blocks are basically just layers of log cabins pieced together.

I sent this quilt off to Walker Quilt Co. for the quilting....and I've never been more thankful to have someone else baste and quilt this for me! This is the biggest quilt that I've ever made!
We ended up deciding on a pantograph called "Leisha's Argyle" by Leisha Famsworth, which we purchased from Urban Elements. I love that this instantly gave the quilt a "cozy sweater" vibe!

I decided to bind the quilt with another Art Gallery Fabric Pure Solid, Magnetism. Ya'll know how much I love this color!! (I used it as the background for my Homecoming Quilt Pattern!)

I was SO excited to finally have a handmade quilt for our bed! It's not even Christmas time yet, but we are still going to use it! haha
It measures 93" square, which is technically more of a queen size. Our bed is a king and you can see that it still covers then top of the mattress. There are only a few inches of overhang on each side though, so if you're making it for a king, you could either add a small border, or even an extra row of blocks. (Honestly, I'd go with the border.)
