Petite Plaid Quilt Pattern - The Wintergreen Version

Petite Plaid Quilt Pattern - The Wintergreen Version

I’ve shared a few quilts so far this year, but today’s quilt is the first that I sewed, start to finish, in 2026. Meet the Wintergreen Petite Plaid quilt!

The Petite Plaid pattern so far

The Petite Plaid quilt pattern launched in October of last year, so it’s still pretty new…but I’ve already had a blast sewing up a bunch of samples!

Of course, I started off with the Cover quilt, with warm neutrals and bright pinks, and then I shared the sweet Sugar Plum version. When I designed the Petite Plaid pattern, I kept imagining how it would make great holiday decor…so of course I had to make a table runner for Thanksgiving and a tree skirt for Christmas.

After those holiday projects, I was ready to get back to a simple quilt. (Yes, a larger Petite Plaid quilt has hundreds of seams…but the strip piecing makes it feel much simpler than you’d expect!)

So I started on this…the Wintergreen version!

FABRICS

I wanted to take this Petite Plaid in a different direction than my other samples. Both the Cover quilt and the Sugar Plum versions have very warm colors…so I set out to create a cool colorway with this one.

I pulled out my Art Gallery Fabrics PURE Solids and found some icy blues, and then I played with lighter and darker values. I landed on Swimming Pool for the background, which sets the tone for this wintery quilt. Of course, just like with my other Petite Plaid quilts, I had some fun picking a surprising accent color for my A2.

Here’s the full list of colors I used:

  • Adrift (A1)
  • Electric Lime (A2)
  • White Linen (A3)
  • Glacier (B1)
  • Aurus (B2)
  • Maldives (B3)
  • Evergreen (C1)
  • Caviar (C2)
  • Northern Waters (C3)

The colors come together to give the plaid such a refreshing, crisp feel with just a little jolt of surprise…kind of like biting into a wintergreen mint or standing outside after a fresh snow. It’s just what I wanted from a cool-colored Petite Plaid!

(By the way, we’ve restocked quilt kits for this colorway!)

Y’all, this quilt gives me all the winter feels. There’s the name, of course. But it’s more than that! I actually did the majority of the sewing during a winter storm. Thankfully we kept power the whole time, but it was such fitting weather for this winter-named quilt, and I loved working on it while watching the snow fall.

And the quilt itself is just right for winter too. I sewed this one up in a large throw size, which makes it the largest Petite Plaid quilt I've sewn (so far!). It finished at 63” x 75”, which makes it so good for cuddling up on a cold winter’s evening (with a crackling fire, if you’ve got one).

Plus, I think you’ll agree the color palette makes this one even more wintery!

Ruby Sue lovedddddd the snow and had the time of her life. It wasn't her first snow, but it was her first snow that was more than a few inches. Of course I had to capture a few moments of her taking it all in. 🥹

QUILTING, BACKING, AND BINDING

While I quilted my last couple Petite Plaid projects myself, I decided to send this one over to Blue Ridge Quilt Co. for longarming. Megan used the Trippy panto by Mistletoe Quilt Co. I wanted something to set off the straight lines of the Petite Plaid pattern, and I love how this panto feels organized and organic at the same time. Plus, the design reminds me of snowflakes…which is just right for this quilt!

For the quilt backing, I used Harmony Fence (from AGF’s Raise the Volume collection). I like how it echoes both the lightest and darkest colors of the quilt top, and the crosshatch design feels like a cousin of the top’s plaid motif.

I bound this quilt with Maldives (an AGF Pure Solid), which I used as my B3 color on the quilt top. It makes those B3 pieces pop just a little more, while the medium tone helps bring all the other colors together.

I’ve been looking forward to making this Wintergreen colorway for quite a few months now, but I have to say, I’m glad I waited until these winter months! I had so much fun making a wintery quilt in the cold, snowy season. It added a little extra magic to the experience…and the quilt turned out even better than I’d imagined!

Make your own Petite Plaid quilt

This Wintergreen quilt was my fifth Petite Plaid, and I still love sewing this pattern! The way the strip piecing brings the blocks together so quickly never gets old. I think you’ll like sewing Petite Plaid too.

Here’s a few blog posts that can help you get ready:
