Mosaic Star Quilt - the Flower Bloom version
I recently finished this "Flower Bloom" Mosaic Star quilt and it's been getting a lot of love over on Instagram! I wanted to do a quick blog post to document some of the specifics of this quilt, so let's dive in!
I used our Mosaic Star quilt pattern in the Throw size, which is 12 blocks and measures 54" x 72". Mosaic Star is fat quarter friendly, so you need one fat quarter for each block in your quilt. So for the Throw size, you'll need 12 FQs.
I used the Flower Bloom collection by Art Gallery Fabrics. This retro inspired collection released last year, I believe? I love the colors and the 1970s inspired "groovy" theme.
For the Background, I used AGF Garden Fern; a beautiful olive green solid that is just so so lovely! I've used a few dark greens from AGF now... Forest Night in this "Botanist" Nightingale quilt (loved that one!) and Dried Moss in this Heirloom Hearts quilt and this Granny Patch quilt. I've found that these greens kind of go with anything, so they're a nice, brown-green, darker neutral-ish option if you're looking to add some depth and richness to your quilt. I'm a fan!
We have quilt kits for this quilt in the shop!
I sent this quilt to Sara at Stitch Lab Quilting, and we picked the Argyle Flowers pantograph by Sew Shabby Quilting for a retro floral look. I love that it's angular, but not so angular that it competes with all of the triangles in the piecing. The combination of curves and diagonal lines is such a pretty quilting design, especially with this pattern. I'm really happy with it! We used a dark green thread for the quilting on the front and back of the quilt.
Speaking of backing, I went with my favorite fabric from the collection, Stay Groovy Sunshine. Gosh I love this fabric so much!
For the binding, I wanted to brighten the quilt up a little bit and use a solid to outline everything. AGF Dried Roses is a stunning shade of pink that I absolutely love and it felt like the perfect fit! I matched my binding thread to the binding and my bobbin thread to the quilting on the front of my quilt and I'm happy with the end result!
Thanks for reading!
Happy Sewing!
