Valley Song- The Summer Nights Version
I'm excited to be back with another version of Valley Song, one I like to call Summer Nights. If you've not seen my other versions of Valley Song, check out the Cover Quilt and Coyote Hill samples! I love how this pattern allows for so many fabrics to be chosen, it's one of my favorite parts of the quilting process. We all want a reason to shop for more fabric...right?!
When creating mock-ups for pattern release, I always love to have a two quilts that are "sisters". Typically one is warmer colors while the other has cooler colors, but it is so fun to see how changing just a few colors can change the entire feeling of the quilt. Summer Night includes warmer neutrals with darker colors to match the vibe of the original cover quilt. Summer Night is the throw size measuring at 60" x 73". All fabrics are Art Gallery Fabrics.

I love how this quilt feels a little moody, but it has a fun pop of color with AGF Hydrangea. I've been obsessed with AGF Hydrangea recently, so it was fun to be able to add that in. Finding the right fabric to pair with it was a challenge because I wanted hydrangea to stand out, but not be too contrasting with the other fabrics. I tried a few different darker options before I landed on Driftwood.
Valley Song includes three different design layouts to choose from. All versions of the design use the same fabric requirements and number of blocks. You can create different layouts simply by rotating HSTs within the rows. I ended up choosing the "Harmonic" layout for Valley Song because I love the movement and repetition of the various shapes. I like to describe it as expressive & poetic as this version provides a modern twist on the original design!
I sent this quilt off to Sara of Stitch Lab Quilting and love the design we landed on. As many of you know, I love Karlee Porter's pantographs and her Citrus Sun Clam was perfect for this Summer Night version. The panto gives a baptist fan vibe, but with a slight twist. It gave this quilt the *perfect* amount of dimension and movement. We went with a peach colored thread to offer just a little bit of color and also blend in perfectly. For the backing, I went with another favorite, AGF Remember by Bonnie Christine from her Wild Forgotten Collection.
Of course I had to use AGF Hydrangea for the binding. Adding this pop of color once again helped pull the quilt top and backing all together.
